Unfortunately, it seems that the world continues to fail puppies time and again.
The number of abandoned and neglected dogs keeps rising, and shelters are overflowing with animals in need of help.
Fortunately, there are still compassionate individuals dedicated to helping every animal in need, proving that these dogs can still lead happy and loving lives.
One such person is Donna, a rescuer from St. Louis. With countless rescues under her belt, she does everything she can to ensure every dog feels the love they deserve.
Rescue at Last
When a neighbor spotted an abandoned Doberman wandering in a backyard, they immediately contacted Donna Lochman, the Chief Life-Saving Officer with the Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL).
Donna quickly responded to the call and headed to the location.
“We don’t see a lot of Dobermans. I was kind of surprised. I don’t know if he was thrown into this neighborhood or what. But he was in a rough state,” Donna told The Dodo.
Fortunately, this amazing dog didn’t resist the leash, as if he knew he was finally being rescued.
He was so weak that he couldn’t jump into the car, but Donna was able to pick him up and put him inside.
Once he was secured, the team made their way to the St. Louis rescue shelter.
At the Shelter
Upon arriving at SRSL, all the staff immediately fell in love with him.
Their hearts broke when they saw the condition of this incredibly sweet boy who eagerly sought out hugs and pets whenever he had the chance.
The staff gave this beautiful dog, later named Albus Dumbledore, a thorough examination.
The exam revealed a large, open tumor and an upper respiratory tract infection. He was also severely malnourished and had no appetite.
The shelter staff did everything they could to treat him, but what Albus really needed was a loving foster home where he could receive more individual and personal care.
Fortunately, that’s exactly what he got.
“He wasn’t here long before the foster family came to pick him up,” Donna said.
The Brand New Puppy
Time spent with his foster family helped Albus regain his strength. After just four months, he transformed into a happy and healthy puppy.
“He looks like a Doberman now, no ribs showing. His appetite is great and he is getting more comfortable with touch. He was always affectionate, but he didn’t like to be touched in certain places. He learns new things every day even though he is very excited and easily distracted.”
The transformation Albus underwent—from severe malnutrition to happiness and health—is thanks to the dedication, love, and care of amazing human beings.
Without them, who knows what would have happened to sweet Albus.
I want to take this opportunity to thank every rescuer who dedicates their time and life to helping animals like Albus and showing that there is still a family that will love and appreciate them just as they deserve.
Thank you!
